All this time when I was checking customers’ identification I thought they were from different countries. Yes, countries. States didn’t even cross my mind. And I thought, “Wow, so many foreigners. And they seem so Americanized.” Halfway through my shift I realized that these were merely new California ID cards. I think the state started issuing them about three years ago. I had a good little chuckle at myself while I was ringing someone up. :)
