Embarrassing Mexican Food
So today my mom and I went to eat Mexican food at this really crowded and super tiny restaurant. It was super delicious, but that’s besides the point.
In my midst of telling her about a conversation my cousins and I had recently my mom interrupts with, “You know, your cousin had cancer when she was little, right?” I had known of this but wasn’t sure about the details because I hadn’t been born at that point in time.
Turns out, my cousin had been in kindergarten and started having fevers. When she went to the doctor, the family found out she had a tumor in her side. As my mom told me this I did a typical, “Aww” as I ate a tortilla chip. Then my mom says, “Poor baby.” And as soon as she said that I tried to hold back my tears and did pretty darn well! But that only lasted for a couple of seconds. Because she then followed with a little story about how my cousin would always ask for her baby sister to be in the room with her. Oh, how I am such an emotional person! Both of us cried as we tried to carry on with a conversation. It was pretty funny, I must admit.
I guess I got so emotional because my cousin has really become like an older sister to me this past year and she seems so strong that I forget how vulnerable she is and how she’s had to go through some pretty tough stuff in her life.
